Spine

The procedures performed at the Thomas S. Whitecloud III Spine Center at Tulane require expertise and specialized training. Each member has received such training at the world’s leading medical centers.

James T. Bennett, MD
Chief of Pediatric Orthopaedics

Scoliosis and Spinal Deformity

Dr. Bennett, a native of New Orleans, graduated from Tulane University School of Engineering in 1974 and Tulane University School of Medicine in 1978. His orthopaedic residency was at the University of North Carolina and included a year at the Alfred Dupont Institute followed by a fellowship at Scottish Rite Hospital / Emory in Atlanta, Georgia. Returning to New Orleans, Dr. Bennett is a Professor of Orthopaedics and Chief of Pediatric Orthopaedics. His specialty interests include scoliosis and spinal deformity, both operative and non-operative management. Dr. Bennett was the first in Louisiana to introduce minimally invasive thoracoscopic surgery in the treatment of scoliosis. He is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and the American Board of Spine Surgeons.

John A. "Chip" Davis, MD

Jacques S. Whitecloud, MD

Non-operative Interventions

Like his grandfather and father, Jacques S. Whitecloud, M.D., is a graduate of Tulane University School of Medicine. Dr. Whitecloud completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor where he received training in manual spine therapies, electrodiagnostic medicine and minimally invasive spine treatments. Dr. Whitecloud believes in not only pain relief, but in rehabilitation – the patient’s return to function after a back or neck injury, no matter how slight or severe. Non-operative interventions are his specialty.

We welcome our newest faculty member -- John A. "Chip" Davis, III, DDS, MD -- to the Spine Team
